From “[Die She Li]” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/001 0516523?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201704)》To [Marie Kondo](https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E 8%BF%91%E8%97%A4%E9%BA%BB%E7%90%86%E6%83%A0)‘s “The Heart-pounding Magic of Organizing Life” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010521950?utm_sou rce=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201704)”, along with the hot sales of these books in the global market, seems to indicate that people in the world are generally afraid of chaos and hope to regain the focus of life and work efficiency through effective organization.

In today’s era where tidying up is regarded as the norm, someone actually published a book to promote “The Magic of Life Without Tidying Up”? Is this the author deliberately playing devil’s advocate, or does it have a theoretical basis? This interesting title caught my attention, and it took me less than an hour to read this book, which the author claimed to have written for five years.

Let me start with the conclusion. This book is really beautiful. Important things have to be said three times, hurry up and buy and see, hurry up and buy and see, hurry up and buy and see!

The author of this book Tim. Harford (Tim Harford) is a senior columnist for the Financial Times, a BBC radio program presenter, and a visiting scholar at the Nuffield School of Social Sciences at the University of Oxford. His books such as “Who Earned Your Coffee Money” and “[Dear Undercover Economist](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/ 0010720490?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201704)”, etc., has sold nearly one million copies worldwide and is licensed in nearly 30 languages. It is one of the most popular economics writers in the world.

Tim. Harford spent five years doing his homework, not only citing classics, but also using his wonderful writing to explain that an orderly life may not bring us closer to success, but chaos and disorder can even stimulate creativity.

After reading [this book](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010748101?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm _content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201704), answered some of my questions: For example, I know how to use various digital tools (I have even written a column on digital work and taught related courses), but why do I still always have a pile of files on my computer desktop? I obviously know the importance of a tidy environment, but why is it that every time I clean it up, my desk is filled with a bunch of books soon after?

In fact, “chaos” makes sense. Tim. Harford said that people whose desks are always messy may give people the first impression that they are very inefficient, but they are not! On the other hand, those who are good at tidying up their environment and are willing to clear their desktops are likely to accumulate more clutter without knowing it. If chaos is part of our nature, then it may be better not to reject it but to find ways to respond to it.

Just like Merlin Mann, an expert on productivity, is quoted in the book, he tells us that in a world that is changing rapidly, if you want to arrange everything in an orderly manner, you are likely to fall into a dilemma of slowness and urgency.

What Mann means is that instead of worrying about organizing, it is better to focus on actual actions. Take the email that each of us uses frequently as an example. Are you still obsessed with setting up dedicated inboxes for different senders or topics? In fact, as long as you make good use of keyword searches, you can quickly find the letters you want to read.

The Magic of Life Without Organizing” subverts the public’s understanding of lifestyle and liberates us from the obsession with tidying up.

In order to pursue a more efficient life, we have read many books and listened to many speeches. We have also learned to take notes at any time, write schedules, and even make lengthy to-do lists, just to file documents and develop so-called “good habits.” Many people think that such deliberate practice, coupled with a plan with clear goals, can bring us closer to success.

But Tim. Harford also quoted the insight of the master of magical realism, Borges. If everyone wants to easily classify the world, it is just wishful thinking after all. You know, if you want to classify things in the real world one by one, it is often difficult to balance order and logic.

Tim. Harford cited a large number of scientific research and empirical results in the book, which simply tells us that we don’t need to be afraid of chaos, and we don’t need to tense up at all times to maintain superficial cleanliness and order. Sometimes learning to embrace chaos, and even taking the initiative to create chaos, can stimulate creativity. Even when we are not so eager to pursue success and fame, success is closer to you and me.

Reading this book is like seeing the wonderful stories of many people through the author’s perspective. From Jerry, David. From Bowie to Corbusier to Steve Jobs, we can learn all kinds of interesting philosophies of life from different people with different styles, as well as the chaotic power they use to change their lives. Just like “Time” magazine’s review of [this book](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010748101?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommen d&utm_campaign=ap-201704) commented, “The purpose of this book is not to criticize Marie Kondo and her organization skills, nor is it to justify hoarding clutter. Rather than saying that the author praises chaos, it is better to say that he finds the true source of creativity.”

After reading this book, I would like to share with you some of my insights. First of all, I can finally let go of my unnecessary persistence, breathe a sigh of relief, and be calm with my chaotic nature; secondly, through the author’s suggestions, I can learn how to win from chaos, and even occasionally actively create some chaos to improve work efficiency. Finally, of course, it is to liberate yourself from the orderly and rule-based traditional etiquette, and then find a life rhythm that is more suitable for your own creation and growth.

Dear friend, if you are good at organizing, that’s great. Please continue to maintain this good habit! But if you are like me, you occasionally fall into chaotic scenes; then, you might as well start from today and reflect on yourself from a different perspective!

It is also good to read it when you encounter a bottleneck, or use it as a storybook.
