The innovative priest
The Monastery on the Hill is a very good story book to read. Whether you have religious beliefs or not, you can understand from the author’s description that there is a very courageous priest in this relatively conservative sect who invited many artists in an attempt to bring new possibilities to their faith. As you can imagine, this was definitely not an easy task at that time, even in modern times.
Architect Kobiyi
In addition to the religious part, there is another protagonist in the book, the architect Corbusier. Corbusier was invited by the priest to complete two works: Langxiang Church and La Tourette Abbey. Therefore, if you love architecture, you must not miss it.
A must-read for photography enthusiasts
At the same time, it is also a photo book. There are many scenes in the church and monastery, many of which are difficult for us to see or take. So if you love photography, you must read it.
I read this book because I had been to Langxiang Church before and was very interested in Le Corbusier’s design. After reading this book, I discovered that I had also been to another church mentioned in the book, which was the first initiative of the priest. After reading this book, it feels like I have been on an architectural journey again.
