In fact, you don’t understand my heart: Think in multiple directions and make a briefing on sincere communication

Founder of Easy Presentation Workshop. He has more than ten years of experience in business presentations and is good at presentation structure, information visualization, strategic proposals and fundraising presentations. Thank you for authorizing the “Content Hacker” website to reprint it. Thank you hereby.

[Why we reprint this article] We are all accustomed to listening to briefings in the same environment, especially professionals who are used to briefing meetings in business environments, so they may feel “stuck” when listening to briefings from students, educational institutions or government agencies, and vice versa. In fact, the problem does not entirely lie in the presentation skills, but in the misunderstanding caused by the different backgrounds and cultures of the two parties. Teacher Liu Yiyou analyzed for us the communication gap caused by these background and cultural differences. He hopes that everyone can think more about each other’s cultural background and understand the purpose of each other’s communication.

It’s the time when colleges and universities hold Presentation Competitions and workshops. When I communicate with the organizers about how to proceed, I will pay special attention to the purpose, goals and expectations of these activities.

Every activity has its purpose, for example: allowing students to connect with Workplace Presentation through workshops, allowing students to experience the possibility of presentations through competitions, etc. But to be honest, I found that some organizers actually didn’t think so much, they just wanted to do it, or they felt that students’ logical expression skills were too poor and needed training opportunities.

Yesterday, I was chatting with a friend about the topic of presentations, and mentioned that there are actually various presentation situations in life, and the purpose is nothing more than to transfer knowledge and [persuade the other party](https://www.contenthacker.today/2018/03/building-trust-from-presentat ion.html) and reach a consensus, but in fact they are all “problem solving”, solving your, mine or each other’s problems. In different scenarios, in order to attract the other party more effectively, enhance understanding, improve resonance and inspire action, various techniques and emphasized links have been developed.

Professionals think that students’ presentations are not elegant, but students feel that workplace presentations are uncreative, dull and boring. What is “natural” to oneself becomes “unconventional” when viewed from the other person’s perspective. This is caused by the differences in scenes and situations.

I think it is very important to appreciate and tolerate the presentation culture developed in various scenes and situations, and it is also a concept that is currently lacking.

Does the structure of a presentation matter? Is design important? Is expression important? Or is animation important? This depends on the scenario and situation of your briefing, and there is no definite answer. The author does not agree that there is a “best” or even “only” [technique] for presentations (https://www.contenthacker.today/2018/02/presentation-hacker.html). The same technique may work well for you, but it will be mediocre for me to use. This is because the “activation conditions” of presentation skills are not met.

The author would suggest increasing the “options” of the presentation and not being biased or ignoring any one of them; with more options, you will naturally keep an open mind, and the more possibilities there will be for the presentation.

If you feel indifferent or useless, it may just be that you have not encountered the corresponding scene or are in the corresponding situation. Naturally, you have no motivation to learn, no opportunity to practice, and it will not be an option for you. Therefore, when facing different presentation training targets, the author will think about the scenarios and situations they face, give required content, and then mention some other possibilities.

Even if I have learned more presentation skills and knowledge, I still want to remind everyone:

All presentation skills must be subject to culture, whether on campus or in the workplace. Be clear about the purpose of your briefing and being able to achieve the purpose of communication is the most important thing.
