An unexpected reunion with old books

Today I was browsing a second-hand bookstore near the National Normal University. I wanted to find some reference books for preparing lessons, but unexpectedly, I found “Homework Doing Co., Ltd.” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/produc) in a lonely corner of the bookstore. ts/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)》This ancient children’s literature work. Although the cover is different and the publisher has changed, the author and translator are still [Furuta Ashikabi](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8F%A4%E7%94%B0%E8%B6%B3%E6%97 Mr. %A5) and Ms. Lingyue are still the familiar names from back then, which makes me inexplicably excited.

Open “[Homework Agency Co., Ltd.](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_co ntent=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)”, I felt so kind when I saw the preface written by Ms. Ling Yue, and my childhood memories came back to me. For a moment, as if I had fallen into the long river of time, I seemed to be back to my childhood, where I liked to hide in a corner alone and read books.

I think I should be able to watch [Lingyue](http://skuan0416.pixnet.net/blog/post/2972722-%E9%A4%98%E9%9F%B3%E6%B0%B8%E9%81%A0%E7%B9%9E%E6%A8% 91%E7%9A%84%E4%BC%91%E6%AD%A2%E7%AC%A6%EF%BC%88%E7%AE%A1%E4%BB%81%E5%81%A5%EF%BC%8F%E8%91%97%EF%BC%89) Did you grow up with the children’s books translated by Ms. Especially “[Homework Agency Co., Ltd.](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_c content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)” and “Chocolate War”, these two books left the deepest impression on me.

This story describes three children who were very good at their homework. When they heard that a baseball player who had poor homework in elementary school was hired as a professional baseball player with an annual salary of 10 million yen a few years after graduating from high school, they suddenly felt that studying hard was too boring. One of them suddenly had an idea and came up with a crooked idea - wouldn’t it be possible to make money by doing homework for others? So three good friends formed the “Homework Agency Co., Ltd.” to start an illegal “business”. Of course, this shouldn’t be the case. Asking others to do things or doing things for others is deceiving both others and yourself, so it wasn’t long before the group was reported by classmates and disbanded after being reprimanded by the teacher.

However, they got an important revelation from this incident, that is: in the past, they would only study and not think about problems. In fact, there are many interesting questions in the textbooks that they hate, and the homework that they find boring is not boring at all. If they don’t copy ready-made standard answers and use their own brains to find answers, reading is actually very interesting.

Author and work introduction

The author of this book, Ashikabi Furuta, was born in 1927. He developed a strong interest in children’s literature as early as when he was studying in the Foreign Languages Department of Waseda University in Japan. After continuous creation and research, Ashikabi Furuta soon became a very active famous writer and critic in the world of Japanese children’s literature.

“[Homework Agency Co., Ltd.](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&u tm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)” was first serialized in the “Education Research” monthly magazine published by the Elementary School Teachers’ Research Association of Tokyo University of Education. It also won the recognition of the “Japanese Children’s Literature Writers Association Award”. Many children in Japan and Taiwan have read this book.

It was also after I purchased this second-hand book and read the preface to the new edition written by the translator Ms. Ling Yue that I suddenly discovered that the publishing house that introduced the book had translated and published it without obtaining Japanese authorization (this was due to the general lack of copyright concepts in the past, coupled with factors such as the lack of affluence in society and low book sales). Later, as the time series evolved, it naturally became out of print.

Fortunately, after a lapse of twenty years, several children’s literature writers and normal school professors in the “Taiwan Provincial National School Mandarin Curriculum Research and Development Group” remembered this book when compiling the Mandarin experimental textbook for elementary schools, and deliberately included “Homework Doing Co., Ltd.” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/produ cts/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)》The previous plot was excerpted and incorporated into Shigami’s experimental textbook, which brought it back to life.

On June 10, 1987, the new Chinese translation was re-authorized and published. It was also written by Ms. Lingyue and published by Jianxing Culture Publishing Co., Ltd. It’s just that I had grown up by that time, and this book naturally no longer entered my reading horizons.

Childhood memories and entrepreneurial inspiration

I am really happy to pick up this book again today. It seems to have brought back the beautiful memories of my childhood and also brought back my dream of literary creation. The only regret is that the translator Ling Yue and the author Furuta Ashikabi both passed away one after another.

I quickly read this book again on the MRT, and the throbbing of that year echoed in my heart again. Looking back now, I may have decided that I would embark on the journey of starting a business (or so-called “freelance worker”). As early as that year, I read “Homework Doing Co., Ltd.” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/prod ucts/0010087528?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201605)》You were quietly inspired, right?

If you are a child who doesn’t like to eat vegetables, you must know that you can’t stop eating vegetables; if you are a child who doesn’t like doing homework, do you know why you can’t stop doing it? Have you ever wondered why there is such a annoying thing about homework? Should you think about it, what is the difference between vegetables and homework?
