How to set an accurate target audience?

Frequently Asked Questions about Content Production

The online course “Content Power: The Super Power of Building Brands” that I taught at a good school (Hahow) has a history of more than three years. Until now, partners are still joining us, so I often receive class assignments from new students.

I would like to ask everyone to talk about the common problems or bottlenecks encountered in content production. In addition to the old problem of “No inspiration”, many students also reported to me: they are not sure who the potential customers of their products are? Or, don’t know how to set an effective target audience?

Set target audience step by step

For the sale of goods or services, it is recommended that you set the scope of your target audience step by step as follows:

  • Which groups may be interested in our products and services?
  • What motivates these people to buy?
  • In what scenarios or situations will they need these goods and services?
  • What specific benefits or benefits can this product or service bring to these ethnic groups?

Take smart rope skipping as an example

For example, due to the raging COVID-19 epidemic, I have been staying at home for a long time, so I plan to buy a “multifunctional smart skipping rope” online for exercise.

Assume that this weighted skipping rope, which combines a cordless ball and a corded two-in-one design, happens to be a product that your company promotes. How would you set its target audience?

Are you an office worker who is too busy to exercise? Or a college student who is idle and panicking during the summer vacation? Or are they the silver-haired people who have both money and leisure? And will their needs, thinking and behavior patterns be affected by age, gender or consumption intention, resulting in different changes? Furthermore, how much are these groups willing to pay for this product?

Gain deep insights into consumer needs

When setting target audiences, in addition to paying attention to age, gender and occupation, we may also wish to pay more attention to the interests, values, personalities and various preferences of these groups. Regarding the setting and insights of the target audience, it is not just based on feelings, but through in-depth observation and supported by data collection and analysis, in order to truly figure out the clues.

When we understand potential customers more deeply, we will naturally be able to understand their troubles, needs and real thoughts about products and services! At this time, if we can combine it with data interpretation and analysis, we will naturally be able to gain a deeper insight into human nature and write good content that touches people’s hearts.

However, I also want to remind everyone: Don’t be too greedy when setting your target audience. You want to catch all the consumer groups between the ages of six and sixty… This is an unrealistic and unrealistic idea. I remind everyone not to make this mistake!

After you have set your target audience, you must also think carefully about what [unique selling propositions] (https://www.contenthacker.today/2019/02/click-millionaires.html?utm_campaign=Vstar&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20newsletter) do your products and services have? What problems can it help consumers solve? If you can specifically grasp the characteristics and needs of your target audience, it will naturally be easy to “cater to their liking” and write good copy that makes people feel and be willing to pay!
