"Digital Marketing Product Copywriting" course experience: Writing power is your superpower

This article is written by Ms. Lin Jing. Thank you for your permission to reprint. I hereby express my gratitude.

How long has it been since you graduated from school? This year I gave myself a challenge to write an article every week and publish it on Medium. I was full of motivation at the beginning, but after June I felt a little powerless. I often opened a Word file, and my mind and file were all blank… I found that relying on inspiration alone was not enough. There should be skills and strategies for writing, but I didn’t know it yet!

In order to continue my writing project, I signed up for the “Digital Marketing Product Copywriting” course taught by Zheng Weiquan (Vista). Course content includes: writing elements, audience strategy, FAB sales rules, [content marketing](https://w ww.contenthacker.today/search?q=%E5%85%A7%E5%AE%B9%E8%A1%8C%E9%8A%B7) and practical exercises. A full day of solid courses plus practical exercises was like an enlightenment and opened my mind. It turns out that it is not difficult to write good articles and copywriting!

The following is a summary of my thoughts:

Writing is a spiritual journey. To write successful copy, you must first enrich your own life.

Create an inspiration database from daily life

Writing is a process of “input → processing → output”. In normal times, you need to read and think extensively and accumulate some materials. Apart from this, are there any other methods? The answer is of course yes.

Think about it, have you ever picked up an advertising flyer? What message is conveyed on the flyer? Are there any techniques that can be learned? Pay more attention to the people and things around you, and start cultivating observation skills in life. As the saying goes, “Everything you pay attention to will lead to learning.” Instead of waiting for inspiration, why not start from your daily life and build your own “inspiration database”! With rich subject matter, writing can be more comfortable!

The inspiration and ideas accumulated in life can also be arranged into the [Content Calendar] (https://www.contenthacker.today/search?q=%E5%85%A7%E5%AE%B9%E8%A1%8C%E4%BA%8B%E6%9B%86), and you can create your own list of writing topics, matching festivals, current events, etc., so that the writing materials can become more and more abundant!

Treat the article as a product, think about it from the reader’s perspective.

Everyone’s motivations for starting writing are different, but the goals are similar. For example, they hope that the article will resonate, that the article will be liked and shared, that the copy will bring traffic and sales…etc. In order to achieve the goal, we must have strategies and techniques. Just like when developing a product, we will be used to setting goals, specifications, sales strategies, etc. When writing an article or copywriting, the principle is actually the same.

So when we think of a topic, the first step is not to turn on the computer and start typing, but to have product thinking and think about what readers want? First write down your writing purpose, target audience, what problems the article can solve, and do you have a unique point of view? Is it valuable? After analyzing the problem through 5W1H, establish the structure of the article and then start writing the content.

Get rid of the word count framework and focus on the content.

The bloggers I often follow are all good at writing articles. They can write long articles of more than 3,000 words eloquently, which makes me admire them. However, because of this, I am also limited by the number of words when writing articles. I think that the best article is the number of words. The teacher’s words broke my myth: “A good work is not about the number of words. The key is whether it has its own unique point of view and whether the message it conveys can move people’s hearts.” This reminds me of Japanese old man’s haiku. Just three sentences can make me smile. For example: “Siri is the only one who never gets annoyed by me no matter how many times I ask.”

Everyone loves to hear stories, and the power of storytelling is your superpower! When I was a storyteller mother, I could feel that my children loved listening to stories. In the noisy classroom, when I started to say: “In the Happy Forest, there is a bear named Kelly…”, the scene gradually became quiet. The expectant and shining eyes of children are unforgettable. Similarly, telling stories is a good way to close the distance with readers. The teacher provided Pixar’s storytelling rules and Jobs’ sales methods to let us know how to arouse readers’ interest by telling good stories, and then make readers take action.

Starting to write is the first step to success.

Don’t worry about not being good at writing, and don’t worry about not having readers, just start writing now! Just like the story of the rich monk and the poor monk who went to the South China Sea to learn Buddhist scriptures, the rich monk hesitated and never set out on the journey, but the poor monk set out with a bottle and a bowl, and really went to the South China Sea to learn Buddhist scriptures and came back! As long as you start writing and keep creating, I believe you will have different gains!
